Why this carrier here
A 3.4 m2 entry hall with the front door on one side and a coat rail on the other behaves more like a corridor than a room. Air is exchanged five to seven times an hour while people come and go, then goes completely still once the household is home. That stop-start cycle is the single fact that decides which carrier survives here.
The floor is usually the coldest surface in the flat and the wall beside the door is the most temperature-stable. Hanging a carrier high on the door-side wall keeps it out of the draught band that runs at ankle height, and keeps the scent from being stripped out every time the door opens.
Because dwell time is short — most households spend under a minute at a time in the entry — a carrier has to work at a distance. Anything that only smells within arm's reach reads as nothing at all here.
