A 60 g wax tablet on the far shelf in a 14.2 m2 closed bedroom

Nobody consciously smells a bedroom scent after the first ten minutes. What is left is eight hours of accumulated exposure, so the target here is a rung that still reads pleasant at 02:00 rather than impressive at 22:00. A 60 g tablet with a 46-50 C melt band, 2.1 m from the pillow and above the door line, holds an L2 read across 10 m2 for 30 days.

Dot spacing and radius are driven by the rung, the field width by the covered area, and the second field by the room's air class. Both fields are generated at build time from the room and carrier records.

Basis: 14.2 m2 · closed. A smaller floor area, so the unit count can come down — but the refill interval does not stretch linearly, because a small room saturates sooner. Air class unchanged from the original plan.

Dose for a bedroom is set at 2 a.m., not at 6 p.m.

Olfactory threshold in the early evening is meaningfully higher than in the middle of the night. A day's accumulated epithelial fatigue, whatever was cooked for dinner and the simple contrast of walking in from outside all make a room read weaker than it is. The usual response is to add more that same evening, and the usual outcome is being woken at two in the morning by a room that has become heavy.

Every parameter in this plan is therefore calibrated against the middle of the night. Practically, that means aiming for a setting that is barely there when you walk in at six and just perceptible at two. Measured against occupant comfort over a full week, that setting outperforms the one that feels right at six in the evening by a wide margin, and it is the setting almost nobody arrives at without being told.

Placement: far shelf at 2.1 m, above the door line

Nothing inside a 1.5 m radius of the bed. A 60 g tablet reads roughly twice as strong at 1 m as at 2 m, so a bedside table doubles the effective concentration and moves a correctly specified L2 straight into L3 territory.

1.5 m or above is the right height, which in most bedrooms means between the bed surface and the door head. There are two reasons. It clears the cold, slow-moving air that pools near the floor of a closed bedroom at night, and it lets the fragrance migrate downward into the breathing band gradually rather than entering it directly from pillow height.

Keep the tablet off fabric. A 46 C melt band wax weeps slightly at 30 C ambient, and a bedroom in summer reaches that regularly.

Assembly in four steps

  1. Peel the surface film. Leaving it on costs about a third of the output for the first three days.
  2. Stand the tablet in its tin on the far shelf or on top of a wardrobe. Not on bedding, not on a cushion.
  3. Leave the tin fully open for the first week. From day seven, close the lid to a 1 cm gap to hold the lower half of the L2 band.
  4. Closing the lid at bedtime and opening it in the morning stretches 30 days past 45, but repeated open-close cycles skin the wax surface and flatten the output curve. Pick one pattern and keep to it.

Fabric is the real carrier in this room

Textile surface area in a bedroom usually exceeds the wall area — duvet, pillows, curtains, a rug. Fragrance molecules arrive in the air first and then settle onto fabric, which becomes a second release source. Two consequences follow.

The first is that in the morning the air has cleared but the duvet still reads, which happens in no other room in the register and is the reason a low-output carrier suits a bedroom so well. The second is that direction matters more here than strength: powdery and soft directions age into a "clean linen" read on fabric, while woody and amber directions go flat and slightly sour on cotton within a month.

That is why this plan runs a powdery-soft base rather than the woody-amber used in the living room. The same 60 g behaves noticeably better here.

Cost: CNY 19 a month

A 60 g tablet costs about CNY 19 and lasts 30 days, so the plan costs one tablet a month. A cotton sleeve costs about CNY 12 and lasts more than a year, adding CNY 1 a month. The measured figure is CNY 19 to 20. That is the baseline for the bedroom, and any plan costing more has to answer what the extra money bought.

Diagnosis

  • Woken by the scent at night. The carrier is closer than 1.5 m to the pillow, or the lid is being closed too late. Move it to the far shelf and close the lid an hour before bed.
  • Nothing at all. Bedroom air is nearly static and a low band genuinely does not read in a sealed 14 m2 room. Check whether the tablet is past day 25 first; if it is not, stand it on edge to raise exposed area by about 40%.
  • Oil marks on the duvet. The tablet has been sitting on fabric and ambient temperature went past 30 C. Move it into the tin and onto a hard surface.
  • The note turns soapy at about three weeks. The light fraction has left. At that point replace rather than reverse; a powdery base has little left to give once the top notes go.

Assembly, in order

  1. Unwrap and stand it face up — Take the tablet out of its tin or off its cord and set it on a saucer with the widest face upward. Dust settles on the warm face and dulls it faster than the underside ever does.
  2. Give it a warm hour — Room temperature is what drives the output. Below 18 C the tablet goes quiet; above 30 C it softens and leaves a mark on whatever it stands on.
  3. Rotate a quarter turn every ten days — Turn the tablet a quarter turn every ten days and flip it once at the halfway point of its life. The face that has been up releases measurably faster than the one that has been down.
  4. Retire or re-melt — When the surface goes dull and stops reading at arm's length, either re-melt it with a fresh load or move it into a drawer as a liner. There is nothing to top up in place.
